The Art of Racing in the Rain

Another dog story! This one narrated by Enzo (the cute lab on the cover) who relates the story of his family. His best friend/ owner is Denny who is a race car driver. Enzo observes human nature constantly because he believes dogs are reincarnated as humans. When Denny's wife Eve dies, her family conspires to take daughter Zoe from him. He is hurled into emotional, legal and financial problems by the inlaws. Since Enzo has learned about car racing all his life, he helps Denny use the race car driver's unique tactics and skills when the going gets tough. Even without a voice, Enzo talks in his own "native tongue" guiding his beloved master to the checkered flag. Enzo's pet peeves: ravens and zebras. Loved the ending!

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

This is a wonderful story of a young boy with a gift. The family raises a particular breed of dogs and trains them. The story becomes his "odyssey" when his father dies. With the help of the metaphysical, Edgar sees the evil force is his uncle. Edgar begins a journey with his puppies "on the run" from authorities and the cruel fate of his beloved former life. A truly fulfilling book.
